Every letter, space and emoji counts as one character. Your text stays in this browser tab; nothing is saved or sent.

How to use the counter

  1. 1

    Pick your store

App Store shows five fields; Google Play shows three. The limits change with the store.
  2. 2

    Type or paste each field

The bar fills as you type and turns red if you go over. A number left close to zero is good: unused characters are wasted search space.
  3. 3

    Fix the warnings

Yellow notes flag words the stores reject in names (like “#1” or “free”) and words you repeat across fields, which waste room.

Questions people ask

What is the App Store title character limit?

30 characters. Apple's App Review Guidelines say app names must be limited to 30 characters, and the subtitle is also 30. Both are searched, so put your most important words there.

What is the Google Play title character limit?

30 characters for the app name. The short description can be up to 80 characters and the full description up to 4,000. Google Play reads all three for search.

Do spaces count as characters?

Yes. Every letter, number, space, comma and emoji counts toward the limit. That is why the iOS keyword field should have no spaces after commas: each space wastes a character.

Can I use “free” or “#1” in my app name?

Avoid it. Google Play's metadata policy does not allow ranking claims, price or promotion words, or emoji in the app name. Apple's guidelines say names and subtitles should not include pricing information or claims you can't back up.

Is the App Store description searched?

Apple's search page says text relevance comes from your title, subtitle, keywords and primary category. It does not list the description, and it says promotional text does not affect ranking. On Google Play the full description is read for search, so use your main words there naturally.
