How to use it

  1. 1

    Type what people would search

Plain words, like “expense tracker” or “hindi news”. Not your brand name: nobody searches for a name they don't know yet.
  2. 2

    Read the verdict

Crowded means big apps fill the top 10. Open means a new app with a sharp title can get in.
  3. 3

    Try the longer ideas

Tap a suggestion to check it. A two or three word search with smaller apps is often the best place to start, then put it in your title.

Questions people ask

How do you decide if a search is crowded?

We look at the top 10 apps for the search. Apps with 100,000 or more ratings count as big apps. If six or more of the top 10 are big apps, the search is crowded; three to five makes it competitive; fewer is open. We also count how many apps already use every word of the search in their name.

Does this show search volume?

No. It shows who you would compete with, which matters more before you launch. The longer search ideas come from the store's own autocomplete, which suggests searches based on what people type.

Why check a search before launching?

Your app name and subtitle decide which searches you can show up for. Picking a search where the top 10 are giant apps means nobody will scroll down to you. A more specific search with smaller apps is where a new app can get its first installs.

Is it free?

Yes, no sign-up. It runs a live search on the store each time. When your app is live, the free audit checks your whole listing and shows where you rank.
